Telehealth Psychology Sessions
At Psychology Now, we offer psychology services over Telehealth. This may be appropriate if you don’t live in the Sydney northern beaches area, would prefer your psychology sessions in the privacy of your home or are unwell and unable to make your appointment.
FAQs about telehealth
What is Telehealth?
Telehealth refers to a psychological consultation that takes places over video conference. I use the Zoom platform and require you to have a device such as a smart phone, iPad or computer with a camera, microphone and speakers. You will also need a reliable broadband connection and access to a quiet, private space.
How does it work?
When you book a telehealth appointment, I will send through a confirmation to your email which will include a link to our Zoom call. I recommend you give yourself a bit of time before your appointment to get prepared. Make sure you have some water nearby and are in a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted.
At your appointment time, we will both connect into the zoom. Our appointment will be conducted in a similar way to a face-to-face psychology session. In my experience, Telehealth can be just as effective as face-to-face appointments for many mental health problems.
Why would I use Telehealth?
There are many reasons why you might access mental health support using Telehealth.
You might be:
- Living in a rural or remote area and don’t have access to appropriate mental health services.
- Not be living within the northern beaches of Sydney but need the specific psychological services I provide
- Prefer to access psychological treatment from the comfort of your home.
- Usually visit in person but have an illness that requires you to stay home.
Am I eligible for psychological Telehealth treatment under Medicare?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Telehealth was introduced as a way to access many medical services from the safety of home. However many of us realised the benefits of being able to access medical and mental health care from home and fortunately telehealth is here to stay. This means anyone who is eligible for Medicare is able to access up to ten sessions per calendar year rebated through Medicare with a valid referral. Visit our Pricing page to find out more.
If you aren’t eligible for Medicare because of your visa status or you aren’t based in Australia, you still can access Telehealth psychological treatment however you will not receive a rebate from Medicare and must pay the full fee.
